About us

The IFB Institut für Bahntechnik GmbH is a specialised engineering company, which provides a wide range of services in terms of consulting, design, engineering, research and development for modern railway systems.

The mentality and the working methods of about 40 IFB experts specialised in vehicle technology, drive and propulsion systems, power supply, signalling and operation control systems as well as project management are strongly multidisciplinary. Due to high requirements on results in quality and flexibility when carrying out project work, the IFB has achieved not only stable business development over 30 years but has also earned an excellent reputation in the industry.

Selected investments in key engineering firms have gradually increased the IFB’s range of rail technology services, both nationally and internationally. In 2005, the IFB Rail Engineering Sp. z o. o. was established in Warsaw, thus building a bridge to the up-and-coming railway markets of Eastern Europe.

Rail-Road Conference 2019

Management

The institute is headed by Managing Directors Dipl.-Ing. Andrzej Nuszkiewicz and Prof. Arnd Stephan, two well-known experts in railway technology.

Dipl.-Ing. Andrzej Nuszkiewicz is an electronics/informatics engineer and has worked in different transportation and industrial companies in Germany and abroad since 1973. Andrzej Nuszkiewicz started working with the IFB Institut für Bahntechnik GmbH, Berlin, in 1986 as a Line Manager, then became the General Manager and has been the Managing Director since 1996. After the IFB Rail Engineering Sp. z o. o. was established in Warsaw, Poland, in 2005, he also worked there as the Managing Director.

Prof. Arnd Stephan is an electrical engineer and has worked as Professor since 2002. Since 2008, he has been the Chairman of Electric Railways at the Institute of Railway Vehicles and Railway Technology at the Technical University of Dresden. Since 2012, he has been the Managing Director of the IFB Institut für Bahntechnik GmbH, Dresden and Berlin, as well as the Director of the competence centre for high-performance rails and magnetic rail systems at the Technical University of Dresden.
