Achieving success in the fields of propulsion technology and power supply requires systems thinking. When planning and designing propulsion units and power supplies, the interplay between vehicles and power supply is just as important as the notion of interoperability and the comprehensive regulations set out by railway operators. The IFB’s role as a certified EBA consultant and assessor in the areas of licensing, plan assessment, and inspection/approval are proof of the Institute’s outstanding competence in this regard.
Another key ingredient in IFB’s success is its use, both in the laboratory and on the field, of proprietary tools in equipment tests and measurements, such as those conducted on locomotive propulsion and catenary systems, as well is in propulsion and network simulation.
IFB has followed this path successfully since 1992, when the Institute developed its first proprietary tools verifed against measurements. This is one of the reasons why the experts at IFB are looking forward to the challenge of European Certification in this area of expertise with optimism.
